ProtoBench is a product development company in Wichita, KS that helps small businesses and individuals design new products. We use 3D printing and other technologies to assist our clients in answering critical design questions, conducting market research, and building marketing materials ahead of production.
This is where the initial concept for the product is devised. This step is where you'll encounter napkin sketches, crude drawings, and abstract descriptions. The objective during this phase is to develop the products overall purpose and approach. After this phase, an implementor should know the problem the product intends to solve, why this product solves that problem, and the rough approach that the product will use.
This is where the starter design of the product is put together. This step is characterized by drawings, engineering dimensions, parts lists, and more. The objective during this phase is to put a solid design to the solution proposed in the previous phase. After this phase, an implementor should have dimensions for all parts in the product, a lists of all those parts, and most of the constraints for each part.
This is where ProtoBench shines. It is time to answer design questions, conduct research, and possibly put together some marketing materials. This step is characterized by physical models, and sanding. .... a lot of sanding. The objective during this phase is to shore up the product design and catch any issues or areas for improvement before manufacturing. After this phase, an implementor will have a production ready design.
Almost there! Time to get building. ProtoBench does not handle manufacturing directly; however, we work continuously to build a robust network of trusted manufacturers that we can introduce our clients to. The objective during this phase is to put a batch of units in the warehouse, on store shelves, or wherever they need to be for distribution. After this phase, an implementor will have a batch of the product.
All Done! .... well, the product is done anyway. Don't forget marketing, accounting, and the rest of the business. Now that the product is built and a batch has been made, it is time to distribute, promote, and sell sell sell. This is the responsibility of the client. This phase does not end, only repeats.
